Late drive, Johnny Cash, Reznor, and truth

Got in the car last night after a long trip and for some reason Johnny Cash “American Legend” collection is what I want to listen to on these long late night trips. As I listened to a song I have heard a number of times I was struck by words that I think ring so haunting and true.

I wear this crown of thorns
upon my liar’s chair
full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
beneath the stains of time
the feelings disappear
you are someone else
I am still right here

what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

“Hurt” – Trent Reznor / Johnny Cash Cover

Art is what you see in it. What the artist meant is probably unworthy of meantioning even to them.

For me this rings so true because of the way it reflects the layers of ourselves.
